Turtle Bay Resort from “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates”

LOCATION The beautiful Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu’s North Shore, as seen in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates”. ADDRESS Turtle Bay Resort 57-091 Kamehameha Hwy Kahuku, HI 96731 turtlebayresort.com STORY & PHOTOS I’ve always wanted to go to Hawaii; even though it’s part of the United States it seems so lush, exotic, and different, like a paradise completely unlike Maine, where I grew up and have lived most of my life. I could watch movies like “Blue Crush” and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” on repeat because the gorgeous Hawaiian settings somehow soothed me. And ever since I saw “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” I’d been dying to stay at…

The frat house and family house from “Neighbors”

LOCATION The frat house, led by Teddy (Zac Efron) and Pete (Dave Franco),  and the neighboring family home where Mac (Seth Rogen) and Kelly (Rose Byrne) live, in 2014’s hilarious comedy “Neighbors”. ADDRESSES 2203 & 2179 W 20th St Los Angeles, CA Note: these are private residences. It’s okay to take photos from the street, but be sure not to trespass or disturb the residents in any way! STORY & PHOTOS “Neighbors” was one of 2014’s funniest films, with a great cast led by Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, and Zac Efron. Los Angeles City Hall from “Scandal”, “How to Get Away with Murder”, “L.A. Confidential”, and more

LOCATION Los Angeles City Hall, a functioning government building, has been seen onscreen in “Scandal”, “How to Get Away with Murder”, “Nancy Drew”, “L.A. Confidential”, “Chinatown”, “The Black Dahlia”, and more. ADDRESS Los Angeles City Hall 200 N Spring Street Los Angeles, CA STORY & PHOTOS In addition to its historical significance, Los Angeles City Hall is also a popular filming location. In 1997’s “L.A. Confidential” (one of my favorite films), the police are stationed in City Hall. 2013’s “Gangster Squad” had several shots with City Hall in the background, including this one with the tower:

East High School from “High School Musical”

LOCATION East High School in Salt Lake City, backdrop for the “High School Musical” trilogy. ADDRESS East High School 840 S 1300 E Salt Lake City, UT STORY & PHOTOS The off-the-charts cheery High School Musical franchise revived the teen musical genre (hello, “Glee”!), made a ton of money for Disney, and made stars of its young actors Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Tisdale. Much of it was also filmed on location at an actual high school — East High School in Salt Lake City, to be exact.

The O’Donnell house from “17 Again”

LOCATION The family home where Scarlet (Leslie Mann) lives with her children Alex (Sterling Knight) and Maggie (Michelle Trachtenberg) in “17 Again”. ADDRESS 6610 Allott Avenue Van Nuys, CA Note: this is a private home. Don’t trespass or do anything to disturb the residents! I love a good body-swap comedy as much as the next person, and “17 Again” is one of my favorites, due in part to my crushes on Zac Efron, Mr. Chandler Bing, and “Reno 911!” funnyman Thomas Lennon. The movie was filmed in Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, so most of the film’s locations are easy enough to track down.
