    Redwood Bar & Grill from “(500) Days of Summer”, “Bridesmaids”, and the “Veronica Mars” movie

    LOCATION The Redwood Bar & Grill in downtown Los Angeles, which has been seen onscreen several times, often as a karaoke bar. ADDRESS Redwood Bar & Grill 316 W 2nd Street Los Angeles, CA theredwoodbar.com STORY & PHOTOS The Redwood Bar & Grill has appeared in at least three films that I adore: 2009’s “(500) Days of Summer”, 2011’s “Bridesmaids”, and 2014’s “Veronica Mars” (the film follow-up to the cult favorite TV show). The Redwood is memorable as the karaoke bar from “(500) Days” where Summer (Zooey Deschanel) sings “Sugar Town” by Nancy Sinatra and Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) sings “Here Comes Your Man” by The Pixies.

    Tom’s Bistro from “Parks and Recreation”

    LOCATION The Los Angeles eatery Delancey stands in for Tom’s Bistro, owned by Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari) on “Parks and Recreation”. ADDRESS Delancey 5936 Sunset Blvd Hollywood, CA delanceyhollywood.com STORY & PHOTOS  The lovable Tom Haverford on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation” is always coming up with new business ideas and money-making schemes. Of course, most of them fail (most spectacularly, Entertainment 720). But one business that finally worked out for Tom was his restaurant, Tom’s Bistro. It took some trial-and-error, but with the help of his friends he made it stick.

    The frat house and family house from “Neighbors”

    LOCATION The frat house, led by Teddy (Zac Efron) and Pete (Dave Franco),  and the neighboring family home where Mac (Seth Rogen) and Kelly (Rose Byrne) live, in 2014’s hilarious comedy “Neighbors”.     April and Andy’s ramshackle new house from “Parks and Recreation”

    LOCATION The ramshackle, weird, falling-down house that Andy and April bought during the final season of “Parks and Recreation”. ADDRESS 837 Beacon Avenue Los Angeles, CA Note: this is private property (and very fenced-in). It’s okay to snap photos from the street, but be sure not to trespass! STORY & PHOTOS Our favorite lovable weirdos, Andy Dwyer (Chris Pratt) and April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza), had a sort of existential crisis in the final season of “Parks and Recreation” when they realized their lives were pretty normal. They, of course, had to run out and fix that… so they bought a creepy-ass, rundown, ramshackle house.

    Los Angeles City Hall from “Scandal”, “How to Get Away with Murder”, “L.A. Confidential”, and more

    LOCATION Los Angeles City Hall, a functioning government building, has been seen onscreen in “Scandal”, “How to Get Away with Murder”, “Nancy Drew”, “L.A. Confidential”, “Chinatown”, “The Black Dahlia”, and more. ADDRESS Los Angeles City Hall 200 N Spring Street Los Angeles, CA STORY & PHOTOS In addition to its historical significance, Los Angeles City Hall is also a popular filming location. In 1997’s “L.A. Confidential” (one of my favorite films), the police are stationed in City Hall. 2013’s “Gangster Squad” had several shots with City Hall in the background, including this one with the tower:

    Bellefleur Mansion from “True Blood”

      LOCATION: Bellefleur Mansion, where Bill meets Portia’s family and finds out he is her distant relative. ADDRESS: 526 S. Rimpau Boulevard Los Angeles, CA Note: this is a private home. It’s okay to take photos from the street, but don’t trespass or do anything to disturb the residents. STORY & PHOTOS: “True Blood” is set in the south (Bon Temps, Louisiana, to be specific) and occasionally the show needs southern-style mansions as filming locations.       LOCATION The so-called West Hollywood bathhouse where Logan (Jason Dohring) tails married Luke (Sam Huntington) in the “Veronica Mars” movie. ADDRESS 613 Imperial Street Los Angeles, CA lot613.com STORY & PHOTOS In 2014’s “Veronica Mars” movie, Veronica (Kristen Bell) is suspicious of Gia Goodman (Krysten Ritter) and her husband Luke. While Veronica spies on Gia in her loft, Logan tails Luke around town and follows him to a West Hollywood bathhouse. Whoops — Luke’s gay. So what’s up with his marriage to Gia? Veronica soon finds out.

    Los Altos Apartments from “Transparent” and “Angel”

      LOCATION Los Altos Apartments is used for the exterior of the apartment building where Ali (Gaby Hoffman) lives on “Transparent”. It was also the exterior of the Hyperion Hotel on “Angel”. ADDRESS Los Altos Apartments 4121 Wilshire Blvd Los Angeles, CA apartments.com STORY & PHOTOS Amazon’s Golden Globe-winning dramedy “Transparent” is set in Los Angeles and uses the city to set a rich backdrop for its stories. The characters and settings are so L.A.; it’s a case of a show making great use of its filming locations.

    Mars Investigations from the “Veronica Mars” movie

      LOCATION The building used as the exterior for Mars Investigations in the 2014 “Veronica Mars” movie. ADDRESS 635 Mateo Street Los Angeles, CA STORY & PHOTOS In 2014’s “Veronica Mars” movie, our titular heroine (Kristen Bell) returns to Neptune, CA to help ex-boyfriend Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring) beat a murder rap. While she’s there, she attends her high school reunion, reconnects with her father (Enrico Colantoni) and disappoints him when he realizes she’s on her way back into the P.I. business.
