STORY & PHOTOS

As the final installment of our "Hocus Pocus" mini-series (check out Max & Dani's house and Allison's house), we bring you Old Burial Hill, which was the cemetery through which Max rode his bike, happened upon bullies Jay and Ice, and had his shoes stolen:

A lot of the film was shot in Salem, and this cemetery in neighboring Marblehead, MA, is just about fifteen minutes away from the heart of Salem. It's a cool cemetery that's been around since 1638 (!) and has that simultaneous pretty/creepy thing going on. It took my friend Alex and I a few minutes to track down the specific spot used in "Hocus Pocus", but Alex did some good detective work and we found it.

Your landmark is the gazebo seen above. The area used for filming is just downhill from the gazebo, adjacent to the rocky slope. Keep an eye out for the three white stones in the above photo, and you've found the filming spot!

Of course, there are some other major cemetery scenes later on in the film, and there's a big gate that says "Old Burial Hill":

We didn't see anything like this during our wandering around the actual Old Burial Hill, and I'm guessing those nighttime cemetery scenes were shot on a stage somewhere, due to the stunts and effects involving their zombie pal and their showdown with the Sanderson sisters. Still, the real Old Burial Hill was used in the film and is a cool, picturesque spot to check out during your "Hocus Pocus" quest!
