1997’s “LA Confidential,” an old-Hollywood murder mystery starring Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, and Kim Basinger, exposes the seedy underbelly of scandal, police corruption, and tabloid journalism, and won two Academy Awards.
