Seriously, guys, how cool would it be to work at The Luncheonette, the recording studio owned by Adam (Peter Krause) and Crosby (Dax Shepard) on NBC’s “Parenthood”? I would love it. And I have experience managing a record store, so I totally think I’m qualified.
Anyway, the Luncheonette is unfortunately not a legitimate potential employer since it’s not real; the interior exists on a sound stage at Universal Studios in Hollywood. The exterior is at Universal, too, and since it’s on their backlot there’s a chance you might get a peek at it if you take one of their studio tours.
We see the brick exterior of the Luncheonette with the cool old-school painted sign in episode 409, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, when Crosby has to deal with a pain-in-the-ass new neighbor who complains about the clientele of the Luncheonette.
I recently did the VIP Experience at Universal and it was superb — the whole day was really fun and my super-nice tour guide Peter snuck me over to the Luncheonette exterior so I could snap a photo with it!
It has the same cool factor that you’d expect, looking all old-school and brick-y. I was really excited to see it! You can also tell from the below photo I took that they completely created a facade for the neighboring condos, that covers up what’s really there on the backlot:
You can visit Universal Studios Hollywood year-round, and I very highly recommend upgrading to the VIP Experience. So much fun!
P.S. The Luncheonette now has its very own web series, “Friday Night at the Luncheonette”, in which “Friday Night Lights” band Crucifictorious meets Amber at the Luncheonette! It’s a crossover that many fans of “FNL” and “Parenthood” should be stoked about.
