“Ruby Sparks” is a quirky romance starring Paul Dano as a struggling novelist who unwittingly wills into existence the dream girl he’s written: Ruby Sparks, played by Zoe Kazan (who also wrote the screenplay).
The film was shot in Los Angeles, and one of my favorite locations the filmmakers used is Skylight Books, an awesome little bookstore in the Los Feliz neighborhood.
At the end of the film, it’s where Dano’s character Calvin does a reading:
And in real life, it is just as cute as it looks on screen. (Yes, that tree is really there! There’s also a cat.)
Skylight Books is a great place to shop for a new read, as they have a good selection and a fun, quirky atmosphere. Who knows? Maybe you’ll get inspired to write your first novel.
Fun fact: Skylight is also where Joan (Amber Tamblyn) had a part-time job on the TV show “Joan of Arcadia”.
